As an educator...
I believe children's curiosity and enthusiasm should be guided and encouraged; that a teacher is a facilitator, one who should encourage self-directed learning.
I am dedicated to the diversification of learning. I appreciate that there is no one way of doing anything that will ensure everyone's success and that it is my job to help every child find strengths that will ensure success. I recognize that technology, employed properly, is an essential learning tool, today and for our students’ future. I am enthusiastic about project based learning. When students explore real-world problems and challenges they are active and engaged in learners, and are therefore inspired to obtain a deeper knowledge of the subjects that they are investigating. |
It's hard for me to decide which I love more, elementary school or middle school. I entered teaching hoping to land a middle school position, but ended up getting hired as a second grade teacher. It was a probably one of the best things to have happen. It allowed me to mature into a better teacher and a better human being.
Eventually I moved to the middle school, where the things that could be done with older students was equally amazing, only on a different level. I believe being an elementary teacher first, allowed me to understand and appreciate my middle schoolers in a very different way than had I started in a middle school.
Coming back to the elementary level was another great change. I had to revive the Mom/Teacher, the one who had to slow down and see that these small ones weren't too cool to admit that they still wanted that hug, that sticker, that good note.

K - 5thAs an elementary school educator I was fortunate to work with a principal who encouraged the members of our building to seek out and employ a variety of techniques in our classrooms.

6th Grade Science & Social StudiesAs a middle school educator I was able to take my passions & run with them. My learners were a little more conservative in their enthusiasm for learning. Challenge accepted.
